New York

I received numerous emails and positive comments from my post on "not getting the job." I also received an email for a possible position in London-- that would be amazing.

I have come to conclusion that I must move from this small city, that I absolutely love, in order to find my first entry level job in finance. I am thinking about moving to New York. I have always wanted to move to the financial capital of the world, but never had the confidence to make the move.

One guy wrote me and explained that he too had to move from a small city in order to find his first "real" job, and now he is very successful. He said (regarding the move) that, "Just as in trading you have to have confidence and pull the trigger."

Slowly, but surely, my confidence is growing. A big "Thank You" to my readers.

Please take the new poll, Should the Cajun move to New York?

New York is the best city in this country, and I've been to and studied, them all.

Best to go when you're young and unencumbered.

I'd say definitely go.

However, no way in hell you can afford it, unless you have a trust fund.

Expect to live in Queens or Brooklyn.

I suggest Bay Ridge.

I may have a place to stay-- friend of the family, I'm working on it.

Try Hoboken and take the path to Manhattan if the rent is too high in the city. I was born and raised in the NY metro area and there is no place with more opportunity than here! Make the move!

I am in the same boat as you are in. I am pulling the trigger September 1, 2008. I will be leaving Atlanta to move to New York. Go for it! You will do great things!

Once again I concur with Dinosaur. Best to do it when young. I did it and loved every minute of it before leaving back to New England.

But Broker is right, it ain't cheap. That being obvious, figure it out and find a way. You'll never regret it. What's the worst that can happen, you move back to the bayou? DO IT!

I missed your original post rage, but after readin this one, I concur with the others--you will soon kick all sorts of ass, job-wise.

I am in a similar boat, lining interviews up, and the time being nigh.

Any new thoughts on the CPA? I remember before you said you preferred the CFA, but now feel CPA would be better. Or were you just referring to the degree (acct. vs. Fin) and not the cert?

I kind of wanted to get a CFA, bec of my stock interests, but am an accountant at heart. You're farther along in the process...any suggestions?

ps, approaching tier-1 blog status.
